LPixel Inc., a leader in image analysis and processing in life science and medical research, has unveiled its AI medical image diagnostic support technology, EIRL. This technology is a reflection of LPixel’s ongoing R&D and extensive knowledge in developing advanced life science image analysis systems.
In recent years, due to the advances in medicine, doctors and healthcare professionals are presented with a tremendous number of images for diagnosis. The evolution of modalities, such as CT (computed topography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), have generated an exponentially large volume of medical images, all of which demand a high level of skill and expertise for doctors to interpret for accurate diagnosis. The growing number of images for image-based diagnosis have given rise to an overwhelmingly large workload for approximately 5,500 radiologists (accounting for less than 2% of the population of doctors¹) in Japan. By applying artificial intelligence technology to medical image analysis, EIRL aims to serve as a powerful aid in diagnosis by enhancing the efficiency of the medical image diagnostic process.
EIRL is the collective name given to LPixel’s AI-based medical image diagnostic support technology. LPixel has implemented EIRL in the ongoing research and development of various areas of medical image diagnostics, such as MRI scans of the brain and breasts, chest X-rays, large intestine endoscopy and pathology. LPixel is pleased to unveil its total line of 10 diagnostic themes. EIRL is characterized by a plethora of powerful and unique capabilities. In addition to being double and triple checked by doctors, the data used to train EIRL is comprised of images that led to an accurate diagnosis. EIRL’s capabilities are further amplified with its ability to learn from a limited number of data with efficiency and accuracy, accommodate to images of varying quality, and integrate seamlessly with PACS. Eirl aims to contribute to the advancement in the medical industry by supporting doctors in the medical diagnosis process.
LPixel’s revolutionary ideas stemming from the medical image diagnostic support technologies has garnered attention from numerous organizations. Early this year, LPixel was granted the Excellence Award from the Japan Healthcare Business Contest 2017, one of the largest business contests organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry that recognizes the next leaders of the healthcare industry. LPixel was also selected as one of the Top 5 Slingshot winners at “SLINGSHOT@SWITCH 2017,” a global startup competition organized by SPRING Singapore. LPixel is rapidly expanding its presence globally as the company was selected as one of the top 100 startups for “2017 Red Herring Top 100 Global,” a mark of distinction awarded by Red Herring magazine to celebrate the top 100 most innovative tech startups.
Scheduled to be held in Chicago from Sunday, November 26, 2017 to Friday, December 1, 2017, LPixel will be featuring EIRL at RSNA 2017 – 103rd Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting. RSNA is an international society for radiologists and medical professionals that gathers over 54,000 members from over 136 countries across the globe. The body hosts one of the world’s largest radiology forums in Chicago every year. RSNA will be featuring the Machine Learning Pavilion for the first time this year, and out of the 47 companies exhibiting in the Machine Learning Pavilion, LPixel will be the only Japan-based startup to exhibit in this area. LPixel will also be giving a theater presentation on Monday, November 27, 2017. The presentation is slated to unveil the latest in LPixel’s efforts in research and development. Moving forward, LPixel will expand its research and development efforts overseas, and aim to use EIRL in medical applications after performing the necessary procedures in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
